Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.
Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there.
After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.
Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first.
But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?
So glad I picked up this book! It’s SO GREAT! I highly recommend it to everyone.
Not only is this book interesting, fast paced, informative about NASA and science, but it’s funny. Mark Watney is such a great character! He keeps the story moving with his humor. When most people would give up and just prepare for death, this man comes up with a genius plan and stays positive about his survival.
It’s crazy to think that someone could be left on Mars. But what’s crazier than that is the thought they could survive! I mean, we know some about the planet but no one’s lived there. Mark Watney did. And you get so invested in his life and survival that at times, when bad things happen to him (like a couple explosions) you hold your breath and think, omg, please no! he HAS to survive!. I mean really you’re that invested in Watney and the story that you just NEED him to live long enough to get home to Earth. What made me love him even more is the way he doesn’t give 2 craps about how he talks to NASA geniuses. I mean seriously, he has been surviving on Mars alone for over a year and they are second guessing him. Seriously, if you read this book, you’ll love him and his story.
5 out of 5 stars! GO get it now!
P.S. Sorry it’s short but I have a newborn now so my reviews may be shorter than normal!
